Understand Your Kerala Electricity Bill Details

Your KSEB bill includes more information than the total amount payable. Understanding your Kerala electricity bill details can help you see how much electricity you use, which tariff applies and why your bill changes from one billing period to another.

Consumer Number

This identifies your individual KSEB electricity connection. Keep your consumer number available when using official KSEB online services.

Previous Meter Reading

The meter reading recorded for your previous billing cycle.

Current Meter Reading

The latest recorded meter reading for your connection.

Units Consumed

Electricity consumption is generally measured in kilowatt-hours, commonly shown as units. A simple consumption calculation is:
Current meter reading − Previous meter reading = Units consumed

Tariff Category

Residential consumers generally fall under the applicable LT-I domestic category. Different tariff structures apply to commercial, industrial and other categories.

Energy Charge

The energy charge depends on the number of electricity units consumed and the applicable tariff slab.

Fixed Charge

Domestic KSEB bills also include a fixed charge based on consumption level and connection type.

Additional Charges

Depending on the bill and applicable regulations, the final payable amount can also be affected by additional duties, surcharges, adjustments or outstanding balances.

Bill Due Date

Always check the payment due date shown on your official KSEB bill.

Current KSEB Domestic Electricity Tariff in Kerala

51 – 100 units ₹4.25 / unit
101 – 150 units ₹5.35 / unit

Up to 350 units ₹7.60 / unit
Up to 400 units ₹7.95 / unit

How KSEB Bill Calculation Works

A KSEB bill calculation involves more than simply multiplying all electricity units by one rate.

The calculation depends on factors including:

Number of electricity units consumed
Average monthly consumption
Applicable tariff slab
Telescopic or non-telescopic tariff
Single-phase or three-phase connection
Fixed charge
Billing period
Additional applicable charges

Telescopic KSEB Bill Calculation

For regular domestic consumption within the applicable telescopic range, different portions of electricity consumption are charged according to the respective slabs. For example, a customer using 150 units does not simply pay the 101–150 rate for every unit. Consumption is distributed through the applicable telescopic slabs.

Non-Telescopic KSEB Bill Calculation

When monthly consumption crosses the applicable telescopic range, the non-telescopic tariff structure applies. This means that moving into a higher consumption range can result in a noticeable increase in the overall electricity bill from KSEB. That is why reducing total consumption can have a larger financial impact for higher-usage homes.

Why Is My KSEB Current Bill Higher?

Noticing that your current bill in Kerala is higher than usual? There may be several reasons.

Higher Electricity Consumption

Air conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters, pumps, induction cooktops, electric vehicles and other appliances can increase monthly consumption.

Moving Into a Higher Tariff Range

Higher consumption can move a domestic connection into another tariff category or from telescopic to non-telescopic billing.

Seasonal Changes

Electricity usage can vary significantly throughout the year depending on household occupancy, cooling requirements and appliance usage.

Electricity Duty or Other Applicable Charges

The final amount payable may include charges beyond the basic energy and fixed charges.

Previous Adjustments or Arrears

Outstanding amounts and billing adjustments can also affect your current KSEB bill.

High Bill Inspection Advice: If your official bill appears unusually high, check the units consumed, meter readings, tariff category and billing period before comparing it with the calculator estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions About KSEB Bills

Clear answers to common questions about KSEB electricity tariffs and bill calculation.

A KSEB bill calculator estimates your Kerala electricity bill using electricity consumption and the applicable tariff structure. Enter your units consumed and relevant connection details to receive an estimated energy charge, fixed charge and total bill. Your actual KSEB bill may differ because additional charges and adjustments can apply.
Start with the total electricity units consumed during the billing period. The applicable KSEB domestic tariff is then determined according to your average monthly consumption. Energy charges and fixed charges are calculated according to the applicable tariff rules. Additional charges may then affect the final bill amount.
For the LT-I domestic schedule applicable from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2027, telescopic energy charges range from ₹3.35 per unit for the 0- 50-unit slab to ₹8.50 per unit for the 201- 250-unit slab. The non-telescopic rate is ₹6.75 per unit up to 300 units and increases across consumption categories to ₹9.20 per unit above 500 units.
With telescopic billing, different portions of your electricity consumption are charged at the applicable slab rates. This tariff structure applies to eligible domestic consumers within the specified consumption range.
Use KSEB's official Web Self Service or Quick Pay facility. The official portal allows eligible consumers to submit the required details to view their electricity bill and proceed with online payment.
